Would a cosmetic dentist be the best to fix this one funky tooth?

Home/Blog / Would a cosmetic dentist be the best to fix this one funky tooth?

I think it’s time to visit a cosmetic dentist. One of my front teeth is twisted and looks hideous. The dentist I normally see is recommending braces, which I cannot afford. So, I’m assuming seeing a cosmetic dentist will be out of my budget. Is there an affordable cosmetic dentistry fix for a really screwed up tooth? I have a wedding coming up and I’m sick of hiding my smile.

Felicia,

For a rotated front tooth, there are a couple cosmetic dentistry options to consider. If you cannot afford braces, you may be a candidate for dental bonding. A skilled cosmetic dentist may be able to fill in the tooth with a composite bonding material. This treatment is pretty affordable. Bonding will not straighten the tooth, but it will give the appearance of a straight tooth.

But, you need to understand that this is not a simple, straightforward treatment. You need to be sure you find an excellent cosmetic dentist. Cosmetic dentistry is like an art. So, not just any dentist can do beautiful cosmetic dentistry. In fact, less than two percent of cosmetic dentists will be able to successfully treat a rotated front tooth with dental bonding.

Also, dental bonding does require periodic touch ups. The composite material will darken as time goes on. It is also prone to chipping. But, getting it touched up isn’t a big deal. Tooth bonding can be one in only one dental visit.

The ideal treatment option to fix your front tooth would be a porcelain crown. This type of cosmetic dentistry treatment requires two office visits. But, it will look lifelike, blend in perfectly with the surrounding teeth and last for up to 20 or 30 years. A crown on a front tooth is more expensive than composite bonding. But, it is durable and will not discolor over time.

You won’t be hiding your smile any longer with a beautiful porcelain crown. It sounds like you should move forward with scheduling a consultation with a cosmetic dentist in your area. Then, seek a second opinion from another reputable cosmetic dentist. Be upfront with the cosmetic dentist about your budget. They may accept financing options and may also be willing to work with you on payment. Don’t let cost be your ultimate decision maker though. Listen to the recommendations of each cosmetic dentist, learn about their credentials and ask to see examples of similar cases.
